Community Action Agency
Our Mission

The mission of St. Tammany Parish Department of Community Action is to break down barriers that create dependency and to assist citizens of St. Tammany Parish in this nation's transition to a sustainable future. Community Action sponsors programs that lessen the trauma of instability and encourage progress to independence and self sufficiency. Success is measured by how many people gain self-sufficiency and no longer need our programs rather than on how many people need our services.

St. Tammany Parish is changing. We see it everyday. With the influx of people from the South Shore, St. Tammany Parish is experiencing a growth spurt. As a result, the emphasis has been on modifying our government to more efficiently meet the needs of our residents. At St. Tammany Parish Department of Community Action, we have focused our energies on building a stronger community for the disadvantaged population of the Parish. We have implemented a program of investment by actively involving the community in improving the lives of the poor in our Parish so that they too may share the American Dream.

St. Tammany Parish Department of Community Action is taking a lead in addressing many emerging social issues. In many fundamental ways, the St. Tammany Parish Department of Community Action is being challenged to re-examine its traditional role from merely providing crisis intervention programs but also to providing a continuum of services that address personal and family issues which contribute to poverty. How Community Action will respond to this comprehensive approach sets a precedent for its impact in the community. The motivation of Community Action is be to become more pro-active instead of reactive. Most importantly, it seeks to promote the values of equity and high standards of integrity and conduct, and promulgate a strong commitment to personal accountability.
