Dear Citizens,
We have been waiting four years for the Army Corps of Engineers to present their plans for Southeast LA hurricane protection to Congress. Six plans were submitted this spring. Parish government believes the concept plan shown at the right is the best of these six plans.
We want a structural solution, not one that relocates our citizens from their homes.
While there may be different opinions regarding what may ultimately be the best plan, no real answers will be available until we get scientific and environmental studies underway. We need this information to study our options; Congress needs this information to make funding decisions.
This information will also help determine the ultimate plan that we have all been eagerly awaiting.
Now is the time to be united and in support of moving forward on the best of the plans submitted to Congress. We need Congress to fund the scientific and environmental studies needed to begin this process. These studies will give us the information desperately needed to determine the final plan. Without solid information, no further steps can be taken.
Every citizen of St. Tammany needs to help with the process. We must ask Congress to fund the initial studies.

CPRA Seeking Stakeholder Input on 2010 Water Resources Development Act Projects
BATON ROUGE -- The Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority of Louisiana (CPRA) is seeking recommendations from residents and stakeholders regarding possible projects and programs to be included in the next Water Resources Development Act (WRDA).
Recommendations from stakeholders will be accepted through September 28, 2009 and will be included in a list of project and program suggestions being crafted by the CPRA, the Governor's Office of Coastal Activities and the Office of Coastal Protection and Restoration.
WRDA-authorized projects and programs are critical to the protection and restoration of coastal Louisiana.
Congress is expected to begin work on new WRDA legislation (WRDA 2010) early next year.
The last WRDA was passed in 2007 and included several large-scale coastal restoration and hurricane protection projects for Louisiana.
The CPRA will work closely with Louisiana's Congressional delegation to help ensure the state's urgent coastal needs are addressed again in WRDA 2010.

Plan a-100-1
|
This plan is the best at this time to protect our residents. This plan would run from south to north and tie into existing levees in New Orleans. It would consist of new earthen levees connected to gates. This flood wall would span the opening at the Rigoletes, and would have floodgates which would remain open unless the level of the lake reached a certain height. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers HAS NOT designed this project at this time.
